Always and forever

Last Tuesday morning, we can home from ballet and I sent the girls outside to play while I made their lunch. They played ball and in the sandbox and then decided to move furniture. At one point, I glanced out the patio door and saw them sitting next to each other with their arms around each other and I heard Amity tell Vivien, "Do you know that we will be friends forever?". Ahhh....Lord, please let it be so!

Home is where...

the doorknob is! This was Amity's first drawing of a house. She went and pointed to the doorknob on one of our doors and said, "See this dot I put on the door? That's called a doorknob!". There have since been many more house drawings each with more details. I love our little super-observant girl!

Shadows

On Saturday, we tried to get haircuts at Cool Cutz at 10:30 in the morning. Not a good idea! It was crazy busy. I bailed and texted Dennis to pick us up ASAP! While we waited outside the store, the girls discovered their shadows!

Court Days

Few people are grateful when their dad has to go to court but we love it when Dennis has to go to court to represent the school in attendance cases because it means he often gets to come early! Last Wednesday was a beautiful day to be home early and we now have clean cars!

It is fun to play at the YMCA!

We had so much fun (for FREE) at our first Play and Learn at the White Rock Y! So thankful for this great program where we can see friends and play with toys that we don't have at home!

A Concert by Vivi

Vivien's two favorite songs are Holy, Holy, Holy and Amazing Grace.  She sings them with gusto all throughout the day and they often have a country twang to them, especially when she says "Eaarrly in the morrrnin'".  Tonight, as I was fixing our dinner, she was sitting at the piano belting out her songs.  I tried to capture her on camera but, apparently, my presence made her so nervous she forgot some of the words! :)

Cat on the Mat

Amity desperately wants to learn to read BY HERSELF!  Those words seem to be her mantra in life.  Tonight, Vivien needed an early bedtime so Amity and I had some extra time to read together.  I found some good readers at the library yesterday and decided to try one with her.  We talked about using her "magic reading finger" and read the book a couple of times together.  She is still not completely matching her finger to her mouth as she reads but I think she will get that with more practice.  I love this book because it is actually a good story and something she could read with very little practice.  She couldn't wait to go bed and take it with her!  So fun for this teacher mama!

Do you hear what I hear?

We have been concerned about Amity's hearing for awhile. We thought maybe it was selective hearing since she can be an amazing eavesdropper at times. Observing her in ballet lessons this past month has confirmed that she wasn't hearing all of the directions so we made an appointment at the Mesquite clinic. I was dreading it because sweet girl does not like anyone messing with her ears. Dennis was home Wednesday to work on his dissertation and about an hour before the appointment, I suggested he might want to take a break for a "date" with his daughter. :) Of course, with him, there was absolutely no doctor drama and we learned that her left ear was completely sealed with earwax and her right ear was partially sealed. Poor baby! We are now on an ear drop regimen to hopefully clear out those ears. As you can see by her fake
frown, she does not really like it but she tolerates her cotton ball "earrings" with the hopes of improved hearing.

It is ValenTIMEs Day!

On Wednesday, we had our Chapel School Valentines party. I helped out in art class and they made precious handprint hearts. I am so glad they do this in school so we don't have to at home!
Amity made chocolate dipper pretzels and rice krispy treats in cooking. She has since been asking to make those "ooey gooey things" again.
After the yummy lunch we came home to open their mailboxes and look at all the cards and treats from their friends. Brings back so many memories!

Labor of Love

The girls spent several playtimes making Valentines for their Chapel School friends. Amity had to make 31 and Vivien made 19! There was a lot of enthusiasm for the first ten but after that, it was truly WORK! They didn't all get painted or stickers but Amity did write her name on all of hers!

First Kiss

We have been keeping our little neighbor friend a couple of days this week. The girls love entertaining him and helping with him and loving on him. Vivien, especially, loves to kiss him and hug him!

Our little architect!

Amity constructed this "tower" on her own this morning. We thought it looked a lot like the Parthenon!
