Rake it up, Baby!

The girls wanted to help Dennis this morning and Amity actually made some good progress on making piles of leaves.  Vivien preferred to just run and jump into the piles rather than working.

Visit to Bass Pro Santa

Last year was the only year in five years that we have not had a picture with the Bass Pro Santa and it was because we got there too late one night.  In an effort to avoid this same CATASTROPHE, the girls and I drove to Rockwall at 3:00 on Friday afternoon and waited in line for a hour and a half before Dennis arrived from work to meet us.  We waited another 30 mintues before it was finally our turn.  The girls were once again in awe and took a really cute copyrighted picture that I will not post here.  Afterwards, we enjoyed our annual free kids' meals in the adjoining restaurant with the huge fish tanks.  One of my favorite Christmas traditions!

Klyde Warren Park

After Amity's art class at the DMA, we walked across the street to the brand new Klyde Warren Park that was built OVER the Woodall Rodgers freeway.  I had heard great things about it and it definitely lived up to all of the praise.  We loved playing in the children's area, buying lunch from a food truck and eating on the lawn, and checking out the books in the reading section.  It is such a great oasis in the middle of the city and we can't wait to go back!

Happy 36th Birthday, Dennis!

I can't believe I am married to an older man! :)  We had a lot of fun celebrating Daddy now that the girls can really get in on the fun and the celebratory planning.

I love reading emergent writing.  "Happy birthday, Daddy.  Love, Amity"

This one is for Jenni.  Thanks for starting a wonderful tradition of "senior portrait" poses.

Happy birthday, Dennis!  We love you more than you can ever know and are so thankful for every day we have with you!

Gospel in the Glitter

At our SOLD class last month, we were looking at how the Reformation is represented in the book of John as well as how reformation happens in our own lives and in our church.  As we discussed the types of reformation that we see a need for, one of them was the need to love people in the way they feel it and receive it rather than the way that is easiest for us.

This probably sounds trivial and I know I need to consider how that thought would apply to my life on a bigger scale BUT I found one application of this reformation in GLITTER.  I think allowing my girls to play with glitter is high on their list of top ways to show them I love them.

Even though it was not convenient and I knew it would create a mess throughout the house, I decided it was worth it.  And it was!  They spent over an hour decorating the pumpkins they picked at Owen's farm on the Chapel School trip.

One of my friends suggested that as I spot specks of glitter throughout the house, I can be reminded that it is the light of Grace shining throughout my house.  So, I am thankful that there is Gospel even in the glitter!
