Thankful...

Dennis is facilitating the Bible study tonight with his group of guys from church. Because he was spending some extra time preparing, I did the bathtime/bedtime routine with Amity tonight. After reading this week's Bible story about Joshua and the walls of Jericho, there was a short discussion about how Joshua obeyed God and then it asked "Who should you obey?" "Who else?" Sometimes I can't tell how much she is taking in but when I read these questions, she immediately said, "I obey Mommy and Daddy" and then later went on to add, with prompting, aunts and uncles, grandparents, teachers at church, and Mrs. Etta.

She then climbed up in my lap for us to pray. I prayed first and then I asked her what she was thankful for. This question has previously not gone anywhere but tonight, I asked her if she was thankful for her bed and her soft pillow and then she kept going with "Mommy and Daddy" and the whole list of family, including Baby Vivien. So sweet! Of course, the list did end with gorilas so I am not fully confident that she gets the concept but I do think we are making some headway!

On another thankful note, I am thankful that Vivien is once again sleeping through the night and that she can now roll both ways. However, that does mean that we can't leave her lying anywhere alone now. She was on her playmat tonight while I was dressing Amity and Dennis was getting ready to leave. I heard her start to cry and, by the time I got to her, she was a couple of feet off the mat on the hard floor. Poor baby! She seemed to have survived the rolls and was happy to be laid in her comfy bed.

So much to be thankful for!

Date Night

The cousins came for a visit on Saturday while Aunt Becky and Uncle Dylan went on a date. Of course, this meant that a little baby girl got quite a bit of attention and, surprisingly, no whacks by the golf clubs! :)
A couple of rounds of golf were played
Amity enjoyed a serious (tongue out) game of soccer with her Daddy.
There were lessons on sharing...but not very many!
There was lots of pure cuteness...
Chasing from Crazy Uncle Dennis...this was captured of Eiley just as her foot came out of her sandal...she was MOVING!
Little hands helped add to our curb appeal
One little guy even wrote his name!
Baby Vivi just enjoyed the relaxing
Some people enjoyed being doused by Uncle Dennis as he watered the flowers.
There was more drawing...
and bucket-filling and sandcastle building.
Most importantly, a LOT of trusting! :) Would YOU trust this man?
Thanks, Aunt Becky and Dylan, for a fun date night with your kids!

Making Her Mark

On Saturday, Dennis took Amity along to the MISD track meet and met up with the Connells. Afterwards, they went to lunch at Taco Bueno and Amity got this toy in her kid's meal. What we didn't realize is that the bottom tip of the top is actually a marker!

At home, Dennis showed her how to spin it and she was fascinated with it for a few minutes until she discovered that she couldn't spin it like Daddy. It was forgotten about until this morning when I was cleaning up the kitchen after breakfast and heard a voice repeatedly saying "Look, Mommy!"

When I went to look, I saw a proud little face and her beautiful artwork...
and then I went and got the rubbing alcohol and cotton balls and wiped it off because I have learned that alcohol does wonders (the rubbing kind, that is!). The little top has found its way to the trash can. I don't want to crush this little artistic spirit so we will have plenty of time for coloring on PAPER later today!

Pillow Talk

Amity, our historically stellar sleeper, has been having some sleeping issues lately. She has had trouble going to sleep and often wakes up in the night sounding very angry. We hear her thrashing about and have discovered bruises on her in the morning that she has appeared to inflict upon herself during the night. Dennis mentioned yesterday that maybe she needs a pillow. Um...one more reason that God created mommies AND daddies! These issues have been going on for a couple of months now and never once did I think to give her a pillow.

Tonight, we grabbed a pillow off of the guest bed and put it in her crib. We laid her in her bed and she didn't say another word. She just laid down her head and seemed simply awestruck at the comfort. I haven't heard a peep out of her since!
Sleep tight, Baby Girl!

Can you tell me how to get...?

How to get to AMITY'S STREET?
When Amity woke up from her nap (a very long Benadryl-induced nap), she came into the dining room to see her party and gave some sweet hugs to her Sesame Street friends.

The table was prepared with placemats and stickers.
The balloons were a favorite thanks to GG!
Grover and Elmo were ready to par-tay!
Even Baby Vivien got dressed up for the occasion...
and received a kiss from Big Sister. Friends arrived and received hugs.
Cousins came.
Yummy pizza was consumed.
And then...(drum roll)...the cake was brought out! Famous "Aunt Gecky Cake" as Amity calls it.

Even though Baby Vivien didn't get any cake, she got to enjoy some snuggles with GG.
The cake was as yummy as it was cute!
And so were the cake-eaters!
Then we headed outside for bubbles...in honor of Ernie!

There was swinging as well.
And more bubbles.
All for a very cute two-year old! Happy, happy times Miss Amity! You are blessed to have such sweet cousins and friends to celebrate with you!
