On Tuesday night, we put the girls to bed around 7:30. At 8:30, they were still awake and the sirens were going off. We got them out of bed and let them come watch the news with us. The radar showed the storm and some tornadoes coming straight for our area. After the events in Joplin, MO on Sunday, we decided to take the warnings seriously.
I pulled the mattresses off the girls' beds along with some pillows and blankets. We tried to think of what we might need were we to get stuck beneath the rubble. I grabbed some water bottles and crackers. Dennis brought the gigantic container of animal crackers! We may be full of high-fructose corn syrup but we won't starve!
The girls loved the "tent" as Amity was calling it.
A little before nine, the power went out and Dennis watched the radar on his ipad. The girls laid down for a few seconds but never went to sleep.
They watched some Sesame Street on my phone.
Around ten, we decided that the worst of it had passed and put the girls to bed. We put batteries in the sound machine (a necessity!) and they were asleep in seconds!
We stayed up another hour and then fell asleep hoping the power would come on in the night. I had just fixed a pretty elaborate dinner in the Crockpot around 7 that night and was hoping it might still be salvaged. Unfortunately, we woke on Wednesday morning to find our yard littered with tree limbs and the power on our side of the street still out. We got ready and took the girls to breakfast at McDonalds before heading to work. Everyone got to see my naturally curly hair for the first time!

Since our wedding scrapbook is still in the form of a scrapBOX, we plan to use blurb.com to occasionally convert this blog into a photobook for our girls. Your comments will be included in the book and we love them! Thanks again for dropping by!
